After we ran some simple errands today, Leia (who stayed home all day) ended up with a fever in the late afternoon. She was really warm, so we decided to take her to the ER. When we got to see someone, her temp was up to 102.5 ºF (39,1ºC). They gave her some infant tylenol and after 2 1/2 hours, her temp was down to normal. She got very smily and happy, her normal self, and you could tell she felt better. (But then she got cranky because it was past bedtime.) :)
Things in the US are a little different than in Sweden... :/ Lots of people think that in Sweden, doctors "under-medicate" and in the US they "over-medicate."
The doctor wanted to send Leia, by ambulance, to Rainbow Baby's Clinic in Cleveland (which is the best children's hospital in.. the country?), which... we thought was a little excessive with a cold and fever.. :/ So, we said no-thank you to the treatment and went home instead.
There was an older nurse that we had before shifts changed, and she thought it was a bit excessive, and told the doctor that, but he wouldn't listen. (The doctor was nice and all, from Madrid!)
Right now she is fine to touch (not warm) and we have of course been monitoring her temp rectally to make sure it doesn't go so high again. And we promised the doctor and nurse that if it goes up again and doesn't get better with the medicine, that we will rush right to the hospital (to Rainbow Baby's).
But we are all taking shifts staying up to keep an eye on her. She's been sleeping since we've been home.
Hopefully this will just be a funny story to tell her when she gets older... :P :)
